5 Ways to Be the Best You

Today you are YOU, thats truer than true, there is no one alive who is YOUer than YOU
— Dr. Suess

1. Get to know yourself

How often do you observe yourself and your sensations from events that happen to you every day? Have you have thought about the WAY you think? As soon as you begin to reflect on yourself, your thoughts, your actions, and the way you interact with the world around you, you will start to see yourself from a different point of view. This will help you evaluate problems within yourself, your moral character, etc. In order to fix a problem, or become THE BEST YOU, you must be willing to be your own worst critic. Remember that this is a good thing. Always be self aware and never let your average day become so monotonous that you don't notice what's happening around you.

2. Build strong friendships

It's a natural tendency to think that we know ourselves better than others know us, but to get a complete picture of your personality, you need both sides. We can be so invested in our images that we only believe in our positive qualities, like how smart and kind we are. Our close friends, on the either hand, aren't as invested in our image, so they can call things as they see them. Our friends can predict our actions and our moods because they have seen us in a variety of situations. They are able to observe our behavior, actions, and even facial expressions when interacting with other people. Having a close friend who sees the raw you and tells you the way it is, is a good way to really hear how you are acting or coming across to others. Luckily in the end, they still love us regardless of our flaws.

3. PURSUE NEW EXPERIENCES

We often cling to comfort in our lives. We have a morning routine, a specific toothpaste brand we use, and a whole mental tab full of our "favorites". When getting to know others we ask them what their favorite this or favorite that is. Ask yourself this: When is the last time you did something new? When you engage in new experiences you force yourself to be more open to change.

Life can only take place in the present moment, If we lose the present moment, we lose life.
— Buddha

Even if it's uncomfortable, its so important to be trying new things regularly to expand your knowledge, friendships, and memories. You begin to understand yourself better. You start to realize your "favorites" weren't actually your favorites, but you just hadn't experienced anything better.

4. Take care of yourself

I don't know about you but when I am tired, I get seriously cranky, and don't even get me started about being hangry. Even in our busy busy lives we need to find time and energy to take care of ourselves. Even as adults we need 7-8 hours of sleep a night. The amount of sleep we get reflects on our mood, attention span, skin and appetite. Speaking of appetite, obviously its okay to eat what you want and to splurge now and then... but knowing what you are eating might make you change your mind once in a while. Try reading the label. To be the best version of yourself, you need to have your body preforming at its best as well. You only have one, show it some love.

OH AND DRINK WATER

5. Trust your journey

As Miley Cyrus once said: "Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb"

Although, she may not have been completely grammatically correct, she has a point.

Seriously though, that being said, you have to trust the process and enjoy the climb of life. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! We all need help sometimes, and we all have things we need to improve on... that will never change. Too often in life we quit when things get hard but in order to become the best you, you need to accept the fact that you are constantly evolving. Take your downfalls and be open to the idea that you can always be better than you were yesterday. Everyday is an adventure and a small part in your huge journey of life. Trust it and you will be on your way to being the best you that you can be.
